Health Benefits of Bubble Walls
If you do a quick search on the Internet, you will find that there have been numerous studies conducted that reveal the benefits of being near water. Being that we’ve created a product that uses water for not only an aesthetic value, but for health benefits and creating Zen-filled, relaxing atmospheres, we’ve done a bit of research, as well. We’d like to share some of the highlights of our findings with you!
Have you ever visited the beach, and found that you’re perfectly content just sitting and gazing out at the ocean? Research has shown that water can induce a mildly meditative state of focus and awareness, with benefits in creating mindfulness, lowering stress levels, relieving anxiety, pain, and depression, improving mental clarity, and improving sleep quality.
In an article published by the Washington Post, they reference a marine biologist named Wallace J. Nichols, who has coined the phrase, the “blue mind.” Nichols has even written a book on the subject, and has described it as, “the surprising science that shows how being near, in, on, or under water can make you happier, healthier, more connected, and better at what you do.”
The article then goes on to say that many people aren’t able to afford to live near the ocean, and therefore have to find alternative ways to experience the “blue mind” without packing up their belongings and moving to a beachfront property. This is where our bubble walls are a great solution! A beach house is incredibly expensive and pools are still relatively expensive, but you can add a bubble wall to your home or office without breaking the bank. It’s perfect for experiencing all of the benefits that water can bring, while still being in the comfort of your own home.
Just think of the calming effect you feel when walking near a river or beach. People even take warm showers to relax! You don’t have to do a lot of research to realize how much more peaceful water can make you feel. Many years ago, when patients were dealing with stress or anxiety issues, their doctors would recommend that they spend a bit of time in “sea air.” Even back then, they were well aware of the healing benefits of water.
In a The Guardian article, Jenny Roe, a lecturer in the School of the Built Environment at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, said “I think water features in general are beneficial; fountains in cities, ponds in parks... Birmingham restored the canal running through the city, and that has been hugely successful.” In the article, researchers in the U.K . found that people hugely preferred environments with more water in them. They also conducted a study based on postal code, and found that those who lived closer to the English coastline were healthier than those who lived further away.
It’s not only oceans and rivers that create this amazing type of effect, though. Studies at Stanford University found that there is a familiar feeling of awe that we get when being near any form of water, and that it may even influence the way we feel about ourselves and others. Modern hospitals have taken notice! There’s a reason why their interiors and exteriors include fountains, waterfalls, and fish tanks. They are designed to be calming and nurturing for their patients. In fact, some of our biggest bubble wall clients have been spa owners who are looking to achieve a peaceful environment.
The color we perceive water to be also has a lot to do with it’s calming effects. All around the world, blue is chosen as a large majority of people’s favorite color. Research has found that human beings are naturally drawn to aquatic hues, and that we tend to associate the color with calmness, creativity, depth, wisdom, and openness. All of our bubble walls come with an LED lighting system, and with a few of our models, you have the option of choosing to have a remote control, or to simply install an app on your SmartPhone to control the lighting effects. With either option, you are able to set your bubble wall to virtually any color you can imagine, including any shade of blue! If blue is not your favorite color, studies have also found that green is the most relaxing color to the human eye, so you may want to give that a try.
Many of our customers have commented on how much more relaxed our bubble walls make them feel, but you don’t have to take our word for it! Here are a few comments from some of our happy customers:
- “I sit there for hours just watching the colors change and listening to it’s somewhat loud, but soothing sound. It has completely changed the atmosphere in my home, and I cannot imagine not ever having this amazing piece of art in my beautiful apartment.”
- “I love it’s functionality – ability to change the color and/or create a nice relaxing shifting color show! On that note, a nice surprise was the added (not intrusive) faint murmur one hears.”
- “I can’t afford an oceanfront view, but I’m bringing the tropical waters to me for a few dollars 24/7. Think of the peace and serenity that a fish tank might bring, but there is no maintenance or cleaning up with this one!”
- “My patients have commented on the beautiful colors and are amazed at how calming it is to them.”
